Tata Power on Tuesday announced that it is now generating nearly 200 million units of electricity annually from the Agaswadi wind farm and Palaswade solar park at Satara, with majority of the clean energy catering to Mumbai power distribution.

Tata Power has over 7.5 lakh consumers across Mumbai while it supplies power to BEST which has over 10.8 lakh consumers in the island city.

Situated in Maan Taluka, Satara district, the 49.5 MW wind power plant is run through 33 windmills, each generating 1.50 MW. This plant, located on a hill at a height of 950 meters, contributes electricity to the Ghogli-Pandharpur transmission line. The power from this wind farm is supplied to Tata Power Mumbai power distribution.

“Its strategic location on non-arable land, with optimal wind density, ensures efficient power generation,” a senior official said. “Despite challenges during development, including transportation logistics and infrastructure construction, the Agaswadi wind plant offsets approximately 70,300 tons of carbon emissions annually,” he said. By injecting power into the Mahatransco (state transmission) and MSEDCL (state power discom) grids, it serves as a vital energy source for agriculture and rural communities in the region.

Tata Power operates solar power plants at Palasawade spanning 230 acres in two phases. The first phase, completed in 2014 with 25 MW capacity, utilized 1.15 lakh solar panels on 130 acres. The second phase, finished in 2017 with 30 MW capacity, employed 1.12 lakh panels on the same area. While the phase – 1 supplies power to Tata Power Mumbai Distribution, power from phase -2 is for Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI)

.”The Palaswade solar park, strategically located to meet the demands of Mumbai’s load centre, offsets approximately 70,000 tons of carbon emissions annually,” the official added.
